Non-metallic Elastic Element Flexible Couplings – Chapter 12

  1. Elastic Pin Gear Coupling:
    The Elastic Pin Gear Coupling uses several pins made of non-metallic materials, which are placed between the two halves of the coupling and the inner surface of the outer ring. The coupling transfers torque through the pins, which connect the two halves of the coupling. This coupling has the following features:

    1. High Torque Transmission: It transmits greater torque, and at the same torque, the rotation diameter is generally smaller than that of a gear coupling, making it compact and lightweight. It can partially replace gear couplings.

    2. Simpler Structure: Compared to gear couplings, the structure is simpler with fewer parts, making it easier to manufacture without the need for gear-processing machinery.

    3. Easy Maintenance and Long Service Life: The nylon pins can be replaced by simply removing the covers, which makes maintenance easy and extends its lifespan.

    4. Self-lubricating Nylon Pins: The nylon pins are self-lubricating, requiring no additional lubrication, which not only saves lubrication oil but also cleans the work environment.

    5. Limited Vibration Damping and Noise: The vibration damping capacity is limited, and noise levels can be relatively high.

    The Elastic Pin Gear Coupling has the ability to compensate for some misalignment between two shafts and is suitable for medium and high-power shaft drive systems. However, it is not suitable for applications where vibration reduction and noise control are critical.
